Blaze Signs Sustainability Commitment

Achieving carbon reduction targets by 2025.

Blaze Signs Sustainability Commitment

As part of the Hexcite Group, Blaze Signs is proud to be part of a new sustainability commitment called Target 2025.

With the aim of achieving carbon reduction targets by 2025, we have four key sustainability objectives to make our manufacturing and production more environmentally responsible:

  • Zero to landfill by 2021
  • Embedding a global, sustainable materials procurement process by 2022
  • Transitioning to a circular economy business by 2023
  • Transforming into a net-zero carbon business by 2025

Our sustainability objectives

At Blaze Signs, we’ve already made significant progress in our sustainability objectives to reduce our operational carbon footprint and improve working practices.

One of the materials we use is EKOply, a product made entirely using recycling technology. It’s manufactured from 100% recycled plastics and is 100% recyclable. We also use Accoya wood sourced only from sustainable forests (FSC). This wood is then treated using non-toxic methods to give it properties that match the best tropical hardwoods.

This non-toxic treatment goes through to the core, leaving no exposed surfaces, which means there’s no need for further chemical treatment. Accoya wood is highly durable and can withstand 50 years above ground and 25 years below or in freshwater with a class 1 rating, making it virtually rot-proof.

Another significant change we’ve made has been the switch from conventional lighting to LED bulbs. Compared to incandescent bulbs or halogen bulbs, LED light bulbs can last up to 20 times longer, and less energy is used. As a result, standard LED bulbs are up to 80% more energy efficient than conventional bulbs.

Helping our partners achieve their goals

By improving our own ecological practices, we’ve helped our customers and partners achieve their goals.

For example, we’ve been able to provide major retailers with new signage that’s eco-friendly and made from sustainable materials. We’ve also enabled them to improve their signage lighting to consume less energy but still provide eye-catching illumination.

For a retailer with a large estate, adjustments to the materials used in their signage can make a bit difference to their environmental footprint. One of the major benefits is the dramatic reduction in energy usage, resulting in much lower ongoing energy costs.

Target 2025 Sustainability Showcase

In September 2021, The Hexcite Group hosted a Sustainability Showcase.

Alongside a panel of expert industry speakers, including retail sustainability expert Steve Lister as well as key representatives from Whitbread and L’Oréal,  we looked at the latest sustainable retail practices.

The event demonstrated to both new and existing customers how sustainable materials and working processes can be delivered across a broad range of projects.
