We raised nearly £700 for Acorns Children’s Hospice

The Blaze Team came together in March in support of Acorns Children’s Hospice, with a member of the team organising a fundraiser through a bake sale and the option to donate, by the end of the week, W£685 was raised to help provide specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened babies, children and young people and support for their families.

Who are Acorns Children’s Hospice?

Acorns’ hospices provide a homely environment where children can take part in a range of fun and therapeutic activities, from arts and crafts sessions to hydrotherapy. Children visit Acorns for respite, short breaks, end of life and emergency care, whilst providing families with a much-needed break from their 24/7 care. The hospices’ support is provided from three hospices based in Worcester, Birmingham, and Walsall, while also providing services in homes and local communities.

It costs a staggering £10 million a year to run Acorns’ care services in the hospices and community, so any sort of external fundraising and donations are welcome!

Their skilled professional staff, amazing volunteers and ambassadors and dedicated families all contribute towards making every day count for the children who are recipients of their services. Approximately 1,260 active volunteers work in all areas of the organisation, including the hospices, fundraising and their retail stores around the country.

Our fundraiser

Theresa Mulvaney, a member of the Blaze Team at our Birmingham facility, organised this fundraiser, using the tried and tested technique of peoples love for sweet treats and food. A cause and charity that is very close to Theresa’s heart, it was important to all of us that we take part and pitch in.

The combined support of both the Birmingham facility and Broadstairs headquarters led to a huge turnout for donations, with the exact final total being £685. This sum only took one day to accumulate, and each member of the team was just as ecstatic with the result as Theresa.

We’re proud of everyone for taking part, and we know that this result will go far when it comes to caring for babies, children, young people and families that Acorns Children’s Hospice support.
